Melanie E Randall began dancing at the age of 4 with Heather Collins of Encore Dance Centre in Winthrop. For the past 21 years she has danced for Encore, now Kennebec Dance Centre, and its director, Keltie Collins. Her training also took her to Andrei Bossov of Bossov Ballet Theatre and Genie O’Brien of the Portland Ballet Company. During her years of dancing in Northern, Central, and Southern Maine she entered the doors of Dancewear House many times. In 2006, Melanie earned a baccalaureate degree from the University of maine at Augusta. Following graduation, Melanie purchased Dancewear House and with her mother, Mary Elisabeth, she enjoys operating a small business that keeps her closely connected to the dance community. She is a member of Sonar Dance Company, based in Berwick, under the direction of cousin, Sasha Randall.
Melanie spends most of her time at Dancewear House specializing in pointe shoe fittings for first time pointe dancers. She prides herself on sharing such a special experience with young dancers. The local community has been extremely supportive and Melanie finds it very important to support and give back to the people & places that have given so much to her.
On July 18, 2009, Melanie produced her first show at the Winthrop Performing Arts Center. Live & Dance Strong was a production in the memory of her late father, Richard J. Randall, former president of the University of Maine at Augusta. The show raised $10, 000 that was donated to the Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care in Randall’s memory.
Melanie also serves as the President of the University of Maine at Augusta’s Alumni Association and enjoys spending her time at an institution that brought so much joy to her family.
She hopes to make the dreams that came true for her as a little girl come true for other little girls who dream of being a ballerina.
